As a young girl, I had already done my fair share of traveling. Any vacation time or chance my parents got, we’d get on a plane or hop in the car and head out for another road trip in the U.S. That certainly was the seed that planted my love for travel but I was always dreaming about going further and I knew I always wanted to travel internationally.
Fast forward to my teenage years. I meet a boy named Travis outside of a movie theater in our small town of Livingston, TX and later learn that his family runs an RV Club. (Spoiler alert – I married that boy and that RV Club would later become a massive part of my story.) We dated throughout the remainder of our high school years and he joined the Army after graduation. While I finished my last year, I would frequently go visit him in Georgia via his family taking me in their RV. A second seed was planted during that time that would eventually grow like wildflowers.
In 2010, after Travis got out of the military, we moved back to Texas and decided to start our family. While I was pregnant with our first son, Gabe, we started working for the family business (the RV Club I mentioned earlier). We had no grand intentions of that being our career path, but we quickly realized there was a lot of work to be done and value we could add by modernizing the business. When Gabe was 1, we purchased our first RV and decided to travel to all 8 of the campgrounds owned by the business and install reservation systems. Boy, did those trips change our lives. We got a taste for freedom and what it could be like to work remotely and travel the world with our son.
For the past decade, we were the 3rd generation leaders/owners of the business, we welcomed our second son, Decklin, and our travels have grown exponentially between RVing, road trips, trips in states and many international trips. We’ve gotten to the point where we’ve been able to scale back our work commitments and focus on time with our kids before they leave our house. While they are in public school, we spend as much time as possible traveling. I hope that sharing our journeys will inspire and help others make their travel dreams come to reality. There is nothing I want more than for our boys to look back on the memories from our trips and be inspired to create similar memories by traveling with their future partners/family.
Thanks for joining me here and I look forward to sharing with you!
Cheers,
Mel
